Well, the past few days have been somewhat eventful. I finally decided to create forums for the linkshell after months of people asking, "hey do you guys have a forum where I can...[insert random crap that involves us doing things for other people]." And since I didn't have any idea what I was doing, nor any clue as to how hosting and creating forums worked, I decided to purchase a hosting plan and domain name and just go for it!
Somehow, "I want to make forums for us!" ballooned into a hugely complicated chaotic process involving a fucked up server, no service updates, no FTP access, bad coding (mine), like 8 different log-in names and passwords, incorrectly pointed DNS things (I dunno...), and me scrapping EVERYTHING like three times and creating brand new forums over and over and over again...
However, everything is now (hopefully) fine, unless DreamHost decides to move my stuff onto yet another fucked up machine...
I am in the process of creating a main page for our Web site now, I really suck at web design so it's gonna be really slow. I also hate using templates because nothing ever looks exactly how I want it to when I depend on someone else's work. My greatest accomplishment so far? Making the favicon appear on the newsblog and forums (getting it on the main page was easy). Most people don't even notice...or even know what a favicon is! But it's the little picture/icon that appears to the left of the URL in the address bar, such as the orange B you see up above here now (or the multi-colored RSS icons that Google Reader has, depending on how you're accessing this blog).
